We ask that you do some research about their care before reaching out to us uninformed. Guinea pigs are adorable and make great pets, however as many small animals often do they require special care. There is a small section in the adoption form that addresses this! If the interested party has a piggy/piggies that they would like to try and bond with him/her, we can set that up. If we have other single guinea pigs available to bond with said piggy, then we will attempt to. There are risks involved.Īrcher is a single male and we require that he goes home with another male friend. I must note that fixing (neutering/spaying) a guinea pig is a dangerous practice and is only really meant to be done if completely necessary. In the case of a male guinea pig who has tried bonding several times to no prevail, it may be in his best interest to get him neutered so he can live with a female/females. However, there are some cases where some piggies just have never been able to get along with others and live alone by choice. Guinea pigs get lonely without a friend and can even become depressed. There is a belief that human companionship can be enough for a single piggy, but it is not true.

When there are more than two males in a cage they generally do not get along, so a pair is the way to go. The Teddy Satin is to have a dense, even. Teddy guinea pigs are also slightly smaller than other types of guinea pigs, only reaching around 10-12 inches long, weighing about 1.5 3 pounds. The Teddy Satin is similar in coat and appearance to the Teddy, with the additional coat quality of Satin sheen added. Males (boars) like to be in pairs and so do females (sows), but with females you can also have more than two. A teddy guinea pig is usually recognised from other breeds of guinea pigs by their short, dense fur and their wider, upturning ‘Roman nose’. Most of the time, single guinea pigs should have a friend or two.

UPDATE 5/5/22: Archer LOVES to climb on things! He is so curious I think he is a very funny and cute little guy and if I didn't already own piggies I would adopt him in a second! Yes, he runs when you try to pick him up, but he is fairly calm and will come out and walk around even if you're near his cage.

His personality is also pretty funny, he is a very thirsty little guy and hides most of the day but isn't all that skittish. Over the next week or so I will try to bond him with one of the two single males we currently have at the rescue, but if that doesn't work out I will still want to find him a male friend.

I would like to see Archer be bonded with another male and not live alone. We believe him to be a teddy or a teddy mix––he is fluffy with very long whiskers. Unfortunately they did not work out and I had to separate them due to fighting/lunging/teeth chattering.Īrcher is estimated to be about 6 months old and is very little and obviously very cute. The scatter response involves a group of guinea pigs. During this response, the guinea pig becomes completely immobile until the threat has passed. The immobility response occurs when a single guinea pig perceives danger. These rodents have two defensive responses: the immobility response and the scatter response. Through selective breeding, 20 different fur color phenotypes and 13 different coat length and texture phenotypes exist among these guinea pig breeds. There are now 13 different breeds of domestic guinea pigs: American, American satin, Abyssinian, Abyssinian satin, Peruvian, Peruvian satin, silkie, silkie satin, teddy, teddy satin, Texel, coronet and white-crested.
